With the British Summer being as unpredictable as it is, we all love to make the most of the good weather when it comes along.  A great idea for when the sunshine does come out is to take a road trip. For this reason, we have decided to compile a number of interesting Scottish Road Trips. Moreover each trip is packed full of stunning scenery, all with starting points nearby our branches.

Great road trips are about many things: good company, great soundtrack, decent food — and a comfortable set of wheels. However what really seals the deal is the scenery. Great landscapes = Great road trip.

Of course Scotland is a dream for road trips with thousands of miles of tarmac unfurling around some of the planet’s most spectacular scenery.

Luckily, a number of National Tourist routes available which make it easy for adventurers to discover the Scottish scenery. Additionally, Scotland contains 69% of the UK’s entire coastline. Therefore it can be easy to lose weeks venturing or spending a few days cruising the roads.

1.Glasgow to Fort William


A82, Glencoe

Despite the large amounts of traffic, the A82 is one of the most popular roads in Scotland.

Furthermore, the road was also voted Britain’s best in 2010 and is the fastest way to get to Fort William.

After setting off on the main route to the Highlands, you will be treated to stunning views of Loch Lomond and the craggy peaks of Glencoe

2. Edinburgh to St Andrews

Drive across the stupendous Forth Road Bridge to Fife and follow the scenic coastal route around the East Neuk.

You will call at some of the enchanting fishing villages. These include Anstruther, Elie or Pittenween before you reach St Andrews, The Home of Golf.

3. Inverness To Applecross

Described as a “best drive” by National Geographic, this Scottish road trip to Applecross in the far north west of Scotland is undoubtedly a stunning drive.

Furthermore, known as the Bealach Na Bà, the route zig-zags to almost Munro height before travelling down to the coastal village of Applecross.

The Road to Applecross offers a host of breath-taking views which will make you have to stop and get the camera out on a regular basis.

4. Perth to Inverness

The A9, otherwise known as the ‘’spine of Scotland’’, is the longest country road at 273 miles and the fifth longest A-road in the United Kingdom.

As a result the road from Bridge of Allan runs through or near historic sites like Dunblane, Auchterarder, Gleneagles, Perth, Dunkeld, Pitlochry, Blair Atholl, the Grampian Mountains and Aviemore on the way to Inverness.

You can’t say there are not enough sights or things to do while making this monster Scottish Road Trip.

5. Glasgow through Balloch and the Trossachs

This route passes along the A82 through the beautiful sights of the Arrochar Alps before reaching Crianlarich at the head of the loch.

After passing the spectacular Lochearnhead on the A85, you’ll arrive at the A821 and Loch Katrine.

Above is the idyllic location where you can enjoy a ride on the Sir Walter Scott steamship and witness the picture-perfect views of Scotland’s waters.
